The Revitalization of Kennedy Street is a multi-million dollar revitalization project in a historic section of Kennedy Street, NW. The revitalization is a collaborative effort to improve traffic, pedestrian safety, and increase green infrastructure. The project will span Kennedy Street from Georgia Avenue to North Capitol in the Ward 4 neighborhoods of Brightwood and South Manor Park.
“When this project is complete, residents and businesses along the Kennedy Street corridor in Ward 4 will have all new infrastructure,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Fort Myer is a subcontractor to Capitol Paving on this project. Fort Myer’s responsibilities include milling and asphalt paving, deep patching, sidewalk repair along with curb and gutter repair.
The Kennedy Street Revitalization project is the result of intense collaboration among community and government stakeholders. The project was approved by DC Council in 2008, and includes broad recommendations and a community vision on how the neighborhood’s main street will be revitalized over 5-10 years.
The plan includes a community vision, urban design guidelines, and conceptual illustration to represent the communities’ vision to revitalize storefronts, sidewalks, and provide a wider variety of businesses.
